During the summer months we were busy creating a new design concept for The Calgary Shrine Event Centre. Our client requests included site features to promote rentals of the Shrine Centre facilities for Weddings, Bridal Showers, Rehearsal Dinners, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Retirements, Outdoor BBQ, Corporate, and Community & Fundraising events. While currently a work in progress, here’s a peek at the Home page of their new website.
Visit our blog or Facebook page again soon for a look at the completed version of the site.

Further to last week’s post about Search Engine Optimization (SEO), one of the points made referred to keywords, “50% of search queries that are made have at least 4 or more words.”
This week’s article, Why You Should Target Topics, Not Keywords, discusses how the way we search is changing with the influx of all the new devices. For example, Andy Crestodina of Orbit Media, suggests that “one important way that Google is changing for its users’ changing queries is that it’s becoming more semantic vs. keyword-oriented”, meaning that Google will be looking for related meanings, not just related keywords.
The article is definitely detailed, but worth the read!
Here at Simply Effective we specialize in WordPress installation/customization. WordPress is actually already technically quite a good platform for SEO and comes ready to embrace search engines. Its features and functions guide a search engine through the pages, posts and categories to help the search engine crawl your site from page to page and gather the information it needs to include your site within its database. That said, it doesn’t mean you can’t improve it further with a few tweaks here and there!
Content is still king when it comes to search engines! The words, the content, the material in your site that explains, shares, informs and educates your site visitors is the content search engines digest. While moving through your site a search engine gathers content and information by evaluating the words, giving credit to certain words and combinations of words. Words found within your pages are compared to words found within your links and titles. Good navigational links to the various pages on your site will invite a search engine to move gracefully from one page to another, following the connecting links and visiting most of your site.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can still be a little daunting with all it’s rules that change periodically. The article, 16 SEO FAQs We Still Struggle to Understand, is a great overview to help us understand how to make a few basic improvements to this important aspect of our websites.
