This May long weekend will look a little different

With the Victoria Day weekend approaching, there are still many public health restrictions in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and many businesses and services will be closed.

Unfortunately it won’t be May long weekend cottage life and camping as usual either as all National and Alberta parks are closed to visitors and Parks Canada is recommending to ‘stay home’. If you are planning on heading out, be sure to check your local area rules and regulations beforehand.

Even though our weekend dreams may be dashed, it’s important to remember that these circumstances aren’t forever. There will be many more long weekends ahead to enjoy when safe to do so, and with everyone working together to get through this, hopefully that time isn’t in the too distant future. Let’s do our part and make the best of our uncertain times.

Have a safe and relaxing long weekend.

Did You Take the Right Path?

“You may be successful in what you’re doing and going steady with your business. However, many entrepreneurs sometimes doubt whether they took the right path. Every business can have hard times and it’s then that these questions usually appear.”

If this sounds like you, and this unforeseen turn of events has grounded your small business to a halt, now might be the perfect time to rethink your business path and preferences and what you really have a desire to do.

While it may not seem like the best time to consider making a change there’s always a silver lining…in this case, TIME. Take advantage of the next weeks, and possibly months, of sheltering in place. Consider any good business ideas you’ve had for a new product or service that you’ve been wanting to pursue and your real ambitions, intentions and aspirations.

COVID-19 was definitely a huge disruption to life as we knew it, but then again, life’s too darn short to be unhappy so perhaps take this time as the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to try something else…something new…something more inspiring, more joyful…a new direction.

We are surrounded by COVID-19 reminders

With near daily reminders about the challenges of COVID-19, even though they are well-meaning messages, they can become exhausting. That said, the COVID-19 virus and infected carriers could be anywhere. Better we continue to think ahead about the actions we can take to stay healthy and prevent the spread of this illness, don’t you think?

If we all do our part and continue to follow the experts’ recommendations, our “new normal” has the potential to help us get through this health challenge more quickly. Read COVID-19 Workplace Tips for Employees for the right information about healthy habits to follow.

Shifting your offline business online

In this time of uncertainty, the COVID-19 crisis has many small businesses of all types and sizes working to quickly adapt to this new normal. Many are transitioning to online selling. If you don’t have a website or e-commerce presence online, diversifying your business now can be a smart move to make.

There are many benefits to taking your business online, from helping customers understand the products or services you provide, to keeping customers and generating sales at safe distances.

We can help you transform your existing physical business to an online presence +/or store. From treating your home page like your business’s ‘storefront’ and featuring new offers and promotions, to informing your clients about changes/announcements, and navigating through your product/service pages in an easy, fast and convenient way.

Before going online or adding an e-commerce platform, there are many essential things to consider:

  • your goals and purposes depending on your product and your customers’ needs
  • a customized, eye-catching and functional website design
  • the best online platform/store/shopping cart for your business
  • your business name and matching domain name
  • your website/online shopping cart host, and generally…
  • be innovative and open to change, reorganization, restructuring, rearrangement

Once this crisis is behind us and business resumes, despite a changing economy, your business — online and offline — will have an expanded customer base making the process of shifting your business online worthwhile.

What to Do NOW to Ensure that Your Business Thrives After the Coronavirus Pandemic

This article offers great advice about key ways to stay in the forefront of your clients’ minds or attention during these challenging times.

“You may be tempted to shut down every social media channel and email communication. Why bother if no one is going to buy from you right now?

Don’t do that!

Keep on communicating every time you have something relevant to say. Speak to your followers and your subscribers and explain how your business is changing right now.

Mention any special measures you have taken to ensure safety (if you’re still operating). Ask for their support – local businesses can make ends meet by selling vouchers redeemable within a year, for instance.

Whatever you do, don’t shut down. People forget brands easily and you want to stay top of mind for when the crisis will be over.”
